From my backyard

Every community has a memory of itself, neither an archive nor an authoritative record but a living history, an awareness of a collective identity woven from a thousand stories.

Storytelling is an ancient art and tradition found within all cultures of the world, used to bring people together, to teach, to carry on an oral history of individuals, families, communities and the world, and of course for enjoyment.

When we share our stories and our ideas, the bits and pieces that make up who we are seem to find form, meaning and value. Whether the retelling of a traditional cultural tale, the recording of a community story or the sharing of an original life story, storytelling has the innate power to help people make connections with each other and the world, gaining insights into our individual and collective past, present and future.
